Great places to visit in england? any ideas other than london?

Great places to visit in england? any ideas other than london?

Going west of London - Windsor - has one of the Queen's cast;es, Bath - ancient Roman town, with complete original Roman baths, Stonehenge - world famous monument, Oxford - world famous student city.

Consider Manchester, Newcastle, the Lake District (the other side of England to Newcastle, not a great distance away). Cornwall, in the south west is also beautiful, and has tons of coastline - it's milder than much of the UK.

There are islands off the mainland called the Channel Islands - Jersey and Guernsey have the higher populations. I love Guernsey, though only been 3 times.

As you're possibly considering the UK, think also about Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. All have something fantastic about them. If you were in Bath or Stonehenge, you're not that far from the Welsh border, and could spend time in Cardiff.

Hope these thoughts help. Contact me if you'd like other ideas, or more info. Good luck, and enjoy your trip! Rob

Go to the Cotswolds and the Lake District. Don't spend more time in London than you have to.

In addition to the above answers I would suggest the area called the Marches, the border country of England and Wales - Herefordshire and South Shropshire. The town of Ludlow in Shropshire has some of the most beautiful architecture in England plus a castle and a wonderful slower way of life, small shops rather than the usual chains, character and atmosphere. Nearby is some of the most beautiful natural landscape in England comprising the Mortimer Forest near Ludlow, the Long Mynd and Stpperstones near Church Stretton, and Wenlock Edge. Ordnance Survey Landranger Map 'Church Stretton and Ludlow' covers this area in great detail showing the main towns, hills historical sites back roads and hiking trails.

London's a dump, and I can't see why people are so fascinated with it. It's dirty, congested, unsafe, polluted, unfriendly, the list is endless. There are many many more interesting, and beautiful places to see.

Canterbury
Worcester
Stratford-upon-Avon
The Lake District
Cornwall
Devon
The Yorkshire Moors
Malvern
Cheltenham
Get your map of England out, and stick a pin in it, but if it lands on London, do it again. Horrible place!!!!!

i love newquay.. u dont even feel as though u r in england.. the people r amazing and friendly and its a really relaxed way of life.
i also prefer wales to england.. north wales is fantastic. they persume u speak welsh so they greet u witha friendly "shami" when they realise u speak english they r just as happy to have a chat that way. anyplace with their own language really wins me over because that when i feel i am truly overseas!

Lots of places, consider:
