Best place to live in the UK?

I am interested in moving to the UK with my husband and 2 kids. I currently live in Hawaii and would like some place that is more of a small/country town. I'm not a big city kind of person. Of course schooling is very important for my children as well as safety. I am a preschool teacher and my husband is in construction. Any advise on what might be a good area? Healthcare is also important to us. Thanks.

Anywhere in the South East (London and the Home Counties) is pretty expensive, although I was in Ely, Cambridgeshire, for a couple of days last year and was surprised at the comparatively low price of property advertised for Sale.
Lichfield is a small City in Staffordshire - I know of Towns larger but without the Cathedral.
Cumbria - very picturesque and great if you like walking, but it gets cold in the Winter
Somerset - Bath, Wells, and surrounding areas
Bristol - 5th City in size. Has become expensive but a lot to offer.
Shropshire is beautiful but about as far from the sea as you can get
I live on the edge of Worcestershire which is pretty central so easy access to the rest of the Country. Generally, in the central part of England, housing is a reasonable price compared with other parts.
Why don't you pick and area of the Country which you think would suit you, and contact the Local Tourist Board for Guides to the area? Just google something like Worcestershire Tourist and Information.
You can e-mail me on YA if you like and want more information about any specific area.

Healthcare is extremely poor throughout UK unless you take out private insurance. Northern Ireland is an excellent area as education there and in Scotland is the best in the UK. The English comprehensive system is often derided as being extremely poor. You'll also have access to the Republic of Ireland. Lots of small towns - Limavady, Armagh, Omagh, Draperstown etc etc
