Visa to Italy?

Hello.. My boy friend is sri lanan and he lived and worked in Italy for two year. Last month he came back to sri lanka for two month holiday and will be leaving in next month to Italy. He always wanted to take me there for three months as a tourist and I was not so interested cuz I was hectic and busy with my studies and work. Suddenly my mind changed and I decided to go with him. He said that he can be a sponser for me and I can easily go with him as his spouse. Does any body know, is that easy/no problem that I can travel with him to Italy? I meant we are not yet married. He says its not a problem, what is enough for visa is that I am his girl friend. Plz anyboy help me. I am not quite sure whether in Italy, would they allow doing so

to get a spousal visa you should be married.
as you are his girlfriend you can apply for a fianc茅 visa.
