What is bullfightin in spain.?

It sounds cruel and mean.

Its not cruel,they dont actually put bulls against each other but release bulls into a ring with a bullfighter with a red sheet(bulls are sensitive to that color) that he holds and makes the bull chase him. The only things hurt in bullfighting is the occasional person,not the bull.

It really should be stopped. Although the viewers are under the the impression that it is an honorable fight between the bullfighter and bull, the bullfighter has several helpers, some of whom stab the bull in the back to weaken and anger it. It ends with the bull dying. Very pointless and gruesome.

Of course it hurts the bull they stick rods into it and then kill it in P ortugal they have wonderful bullfights but the bull isn't killed.

It is a very old custom in Spain going back over a thousand years. It is by it's very nature a cruel bloodsport, but then every bloodsport is cruel by it's nature. There are very few countries in the world that doesn't have at least one bloodsport.
Bullfighting is a dying culture in Spain. It doesn't happen all over Spain. Just a few provinces these days that have bullfights. Some provinces it is banned. It is mainly Andalucia which is a great province for breeding bulls for bullfights. Before a bull enters the ring it is a pampered beast. It has the best of everything, but unfortunately it is destined to die a horrible death. One day it will end just the same as all bloodsports.
Out of all the animals on this earth the one that kills for fun & pleasure is the human race. Not much of a legacy.

I hate to contradict Conoco, because I know he's very knowledgable, but bullfighting goes back more like 3000 years. It's roots go back even deeper, to way into prehistory.

It's a test of a man's bravery against the odds of taking on a beast that is much larger and stronger than he is. However, it has grown to a bloodthirsty sport in which the bull has very little chance.

Yes, in Spain, they still kill the bull, and it can be a very bloody prospect.

No. The bull does NOT respond to the "sheet" ??? because it is red. First, it's a cape, not a sheet, and it is only red for the spectators' benefit, so they can tell the difference between the matador and the other toreadores, and, even then, it's sometimes pink, which is traditionally used by the non matadors, they use red and pink for two reasons, one, because they are flashy for the spectators, and two, because the blood shows less.

The bull, btw, is color blind, and wouldn't care WHAT color the cape was, it's the movement that agitates the bull.

And the real reason that the bull gets moving is because they prick it with little blades called Bandarrillos and Picos.

It is, however, something that you should go see, if you can stand the blood, because it IS such a typically Spanish thing, and part of the culture, and, as Conoco mentioned, becoming more and more rare, and in our lifetimes, may end altogether. If you don't see one when you have the chance, you may never have the opportunity again.

If you are thinking of going - save some transportation dough and go, instead, to Tijuana, Mexico. I suppose you'll need to return home though.

it used to be more fair but now the men have an advantage and its not really art or dance anymore more of just public slaughter.
