Why is north island better suited for living conditions?

A warmer year round climate, easier to farm, higher population

The only reason I could think of is the North Island is heavier populated, therefore more jobs are created.

Is it better suited for living conditions?
It all depends on what are your requirements and preferences.
South Island is cheaper for housing and quieter- has less traffice so offers a better living condition for those who prefer that life style.
North Island generally has more temperate weather, more job opportunities because of the larger population
