New Zeland: If you are "Kiwis", then who are these?

If New Zealanders are Kiwis, then what country's people are:
1. Oranges
2. Bananas
3. Melons
4. Grapes
5. Strawberries
6. Mangos
7. Persimmons
8. Apples
9. Pineapples
10. Raspberries

You've got it soooooooo wrong.
NZers are kiwis because of a rare and unique bird.
The chinese gooseberry (Actinensis chinensis) is called a "kiwifruit". You'd soon get your knickers knotted if you called a grapefruit a grape, so why do you think a kiwifriut is synonymous with 'kiwi'?

smart *** aye?

Kiwi's arent only fruit. They are also a rare bird that is only found in New Zealand you silly billy

Kiwi is a rare native bird only found in New Zealand. A Kiwi is very different from KiwiFRUIT!

In New Zealand we call the fruit a kiwifruit.
the term kiwi refers to a native bird of New Zealand which is one of our symbols. The word also refers to a slang term for New Zealanders. This is similar to the Americans being called wanks...I mean yanks...

KiwiFRUIT - New Zealand

Oranges - Hollywood - the fake orange tans

Melons - American as they are so much into boob jobs that look like melons

Apples - Tasmania, Australia, The Apple Isle (their slogan)

Pineapples - native to Uruguay, Brazil, Puerto Rico, or Paraguay.

... you get the picture.

Kiwis are flightless birds native to New Zealand.

The fruit are kiwifruit, also know as Chinese Gooseberries.

Kiwi is a slang term for a New Zealander.

...

As mentioned above, I think we get the name from the kiwi bird which is only found in NZ.

The kiwi fruit actually originates in china btw, known as the chinese gooseberry (so I heard)

im surprised these jealous aussies dont call it a chinese gooseberries instead of kiwis

The name kiwi fruit was a brilliant marketing ploy to sell Chinese gooseberries to the world, when China was a major threat to nuclear stability.

OMG DUDE ITS NAMED AFTER THE KIWI BIRD BIRD BIRD NOTTTTTT THE KIWI FRUIT CAUSE THE KIWI BIRD LIVES IN NZ

If you want to know the truth, the kiwifruit as its called here, was actually originally called the CHINESE GOOSEBERRY but the name changed in the early 1970's to kiwifruit.....by this time new zealanders were already called kiwis and the kiwi ( bird) had been known for longer.......

So once you get your head around that you might call kiwifruit, kiwifruit and then the others are easier to differentiate.

Hahahahahaha.................thank you for the laugh...hahahahha

LOL..I LOVE the answers provided. I have just come back from living in Melbourne for two years in an ex-pat community (Canadians, Americans, Malaysian etc..) and I was always having to explain to the Americans particularly that the Kiwis are flightless birds native to NZ and the slang name for New Zealanders, NOT the fruit.
I also recommended that when they visit New Zealand to call the fruit "kwifruit" and not "a kiwi" because some Kiwi's might not take kindly to it....and you've supported what I told her!

Well done Kiwi's!
