What is a beautiful place to visit in Mexico, excluding cities close to the US border? Xalapa - the San Francisco of Mexico. copper Vally Cancun is really nice but it is really far away from the US. It is on the Yucatan Peninsula. Oh, I forgot Tijuana. Colonias cities with a rich local and prehispanic culture: I would recommend Guadalajara, Jalisco. There you will have the best of both worlds in many respects. It is a medium size city that is very modern and thus offers you all of the entertainment and amenities of a large metropolis, and at the same time offers you genuine Mexican culture. When in Guadalajara, you will feel that you are authentically experiencing Mexico rather than simply going to, say, a beach resort that is oriented toward foreign vacationers. Playa del Carmen...gorgeous!! and close to Tulum and Chichen Itza (amazing mayan ruins). not as city-like as cancun. We found the Vacation experts. We use them to do everything in Mexico and Cancun. Rob and Al at I think people have already answered your question. To save your life DO NOT go to Mexico City, trust me. Someone sees you with some jewelry on they'll do anything, slit your throat... as my Mexican dad has told me. ( People in gangs, which are a lot of them).
