Where can I learn Mayan in Merida, Mexico?

I'm interested in private language instruction in Merida, Mexico in Mayan. The instruction could be in either spanish or English. How much would this cost?

I don't know of any schools or individuals in Merida that teach Mayan. That certainly doesn't mean that no one teaches it there. You might ask at some of the existing Spanish laguage schools. Mayan also has many dialects and variations so it is not like learning Spanish or English. Quiche / K'iche seems to be the most universal in Guatemala although there seems to be at least 20 dialects spoken there.There are/were several choices for school in Guatemala .In southwest Mexico I hear more tzeltal than anything else.I only know of one school in Mexico teaching Mayan and someone told me recently about one in Belize also.If you have any luck locating one in or around Merida please email me.Good luck with your quest.

If you don't mind learning the Tzotzil dialect of Mayan, in San Cristobal de las Casas Chiapas you'll probably find some family that could teach you. However you'll probably need good spanish to even communicate with the locals.
