I believe you will need to contact the nearest Mexican consulate with your question. See list below. i seriusly doubt that you will be allowed to take it unless you are a law enforcement officer.

No guns for gringos in Mexico. There are a number hunting companies but they provide the firearms. Check online.

If you have to stop at a military check point (and you will, for sure) they will look for any gun or drugs at your vehicle, if a gun or rifle is found and you don't have the mexican army registration and permission you will be sent to a mexican federal prision; to carry fire weapons is a federal crime in M茅xico.
