What does the term 'latin america' refer to? is it mexico, brazil?

Latin America is all country of America except for US and Canada. Includes countries form Mexico to Chile, Caribbean except US Virgin Islands and the Bahamas. Anciently includes New Mexico, Arizona, Texas and California.
In Spanish, they denominate US and Canada as "America Anglosajona" and the rest as "America Latina"

Any part of North, Central, and South America with the exception of the United States and Canada. It would include both Mexico and Brazil.

hi! i'm from argentina. latin american refer to countris wich languajes deriving from latin. for that reason brazil is a part of latin america.

A simple answer to that question is not always possible. There is more than one "accepted" definition of Latin America. Below are the fiive most widely accepted definitions.All of them are correct depending on your perspective.

Latin America (Portuguese/Spanish: Am茅rica Latina) is the region of the Americas where Romance languages 鈥?those derived from Latin 鈥?are officially or primarily spoken. Latin America is distinct from Anglo-America, a region of the Americas where English, a Germanic language, predominates.

The most common view is that Latin America includes territories in the Americas where Spanish or Portuguese prevail: Mexico and most of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. The English-speaking American countries are not considered to be part of Latin America. Territories where other Romance languages such as French (e.g., Quebec in Canada) or Kreyol (e.g. Haiti, Martinique and Guadeloupe) predominate are frequently not considered to be part of Latin America from this perspective, despite the French origins of the concept. The former Dutch colonies Suriname, Netherlands Antilles and Aruba are not considered parts of Latin America, even though in the latter two, the predominantly Iberian-influenced language Papiamentu is spoken by the majority of the population.

Sometimes, particularly in the United States, the term "Latin America" is used to refer to all of America south of the U.S., including countries such as Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Jamaica, Barbados and Suriname where non-Romance languages prevail.
