How much are travel costs in South America and Cuba?

I'm looking to travel for about 4 months through South America and Cuba and I want to gauge how much I will need to save. I will be staying in budget accommodation but not a dorm room. I will be staying in a twin share room with my friend.

I recently returned from a similar,but somewhat shorter trip with my adult daughter.We budgeted $50 US a day 'each' for public transportation (taxis & buses) a 'shared' hotel room,meals and snacks,entertainment & admissions(museums,movies) etc. It 'did not' include our round trip air fare from, and back to, the U.S. or any permit/visa/departure fees we encountered....We never exceded our budget.
