Has anyone traveled to Central America by car? |
My husband and his brother are taking a trip to Central America "Costa Rica"... Any advice to give them if you have traveled by car before? If so please email me. Thanks If he is going to drive all Central America with car, remember that some countries ask for a visa. Road System in Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua are good, but in Costa Rica take care with holes and curves. Also take in consideration the tax that countries ask may varies, depending the place, and the local laws for driving too. I went to Nicaragua by car, and in Costa Rica - Nicaragua Border Line I had the luck that was almost empty, but when buses arrived, queue lines are ETERNAL!!! so take that in consideration. i went To Honduras with my wife three years ago. We arrived there in 12 days. Is really hard to go by car, in some countries like Guatemala is very hard to drive and it is very slow. You should go by Airplane. Border crossing can be a nightmare. I have been held at gun point by border guards. They hold you there to get money out of you. Costa Rica has some of the worst road there are. Drop into a pothole and never be seen again. I lived in Central America for years and do not recommend driving there. To people in those countries, all Americans are rich and you are fair game. There are wonderful places to see and things to do, but you have to be very careful. |
