What do you think to rent a boat and to visit Italy along the coast ?

Of course starting from May until September

Very good (but expensive) idea, expecially the south.
Consider Italy have 7000km of seacoast.
If you have the money for this travel you'll enjoy.

I know several people that sail and they always prefer the ex-Yugoslav coast (the Adriatic)... although Sardinia and the Ligurian coast (across from Sardinia) are boating destinations. I would, if I could sail, love to circumnavigate Sicily!
