How much of an increase can I expect on my insurance for drink driving?

Hi all,
7 months ago I was charged for drink driving. I was given the minimum 12 month ban and a minimum fine for having no record and being just over the limit. The funny thing is, if I had been pulled over a year beforehand, the law would have said I was under the limit! Anyway, I'm 27 Dublin bloke, have my full five years no claim bonus, and was paying about 900 euro for a 1999 1.3 Fiesta in good condition just before I lost the license. I've spent the last 30 minutes talking to insurance companies but no one will give me any kind of answer untill I get my license back, but I'm trying to plan for how much this will cost me now. So does anyone know how much I can now inspect my insurance to be assuming I drove a similar car of the same worth? Thanks...

Some (most?) insurance companies won't want your business and will quote an astonomical sum (7000 Euro or thereabouts) just to make you go elsewhere.

I know of one individual who was paying approx 500 Euro and after a drink-driving ban the best they could get was 2500 Euro.

The best thing I can advise is to contact an insurance broker and let them do the legwork for you. They may also be able to give you an indication of what you can expect to pay.

If you ever get a 2nd ban, insurance companies will not even quote you so give up either the drinking or the driving.

Shop around. My son has had a quote that was cheaper than before he was banned for drink driving.

Try for a quote online. That's where he got his and it's with one of the big companies.

you will have to pay the earth! You will only probably be able to afford third party, fire and theft, as fully comp will be astronomic. This will carry on for at least 5-6 years, and that's if you can find a firm to insure you. Many wont want to know. All your no claims bonus will go out of the window I'm afraid. Good luck, I have been there, it taught me a very expensive lesson, I have never touched a drop and driven since!

if you drink and drive you should lose your license forever

you should never be allowed to get insurance again!!!no excuse for drink driving it kills people
