If I have a valid U.S. drivers license, do I need an International Drivers Permit for Ireland?

The purposeof the international drivers permit is to have your driving info in the language of the country you are visiting...it is not a license, but just documentaion that you have a license in your home country. Since Ireland is an English speaking country, I would think the international permit would not be needed. See site below and read first sentence under "Driving information." This indicates you do not need the international permit. See 2nd site for a previous answer here on answers from a person with experience.

If your only visiting then your U.S licence is perfect. If you intending on living here you need to take the driving test here.
