Name of event in Ireland where they throw a rock between two towns?

Hi,

A few years ago I saw on TV this annual event in Ireland where they throw a rock along a road between two towns. It's a competition and the person with the least throws between the two wins. I was wondering what exactly is the name of this event. Any links to information would be very helpful. Great!

Thank you!

It's called Road Bowls. The 'rock' as you call it is known as a 'bullet' as it was based on the bullets fired by infantrymen way back when. It's not an annual event but a series of competitions that take part in County Armagh. I think they also play it in County Cork.

This is an ancient game still played in County Cork and Antrim in Ireland. The official name for it Road Bowling but it is more commonly called 'Bowls' - rhyming with 'howls'. It is also played in West Virginia in the US. See the links below for more information and pictures.
