Even tough ireland is a first world country do you think ireland is lacking proper facilities?

such as good stadiums well i know croke park is a world class stadium but the rest of the stadiums in ireland are rundown places and in an average town in ireland i think the main streets in the towns are terrible looking and some of the shop fronts in the towns are very old. i think the irish government should have spent of their money on making ireland look like a modern 21 century country not a rundown old fashioned country

I thought the facilities were fine, and I'm sure super cool Stadiums aren't on the list of required objects for 1st World status.....really, how do you instantly upgrade an entire country? and why would you want to?

the Irish are smart and know there is no use trying to perk up for a world that is close to being destroyed by pollution.

I have never been to Ireland, But I would love to visit. So I wouldn't know , but as far as old buildings and towns that's part of your history and charm, , I would fix up the old buildings , you can't or should you forget your history

I don't think lacking good stadiums is really an issue when we've got bigger problems such as the health system, drink and drug related problems etc...I mean, even if we still refered to it as first/third world,I don't think the 'third world' is striving to get good stadiums!

no thats stupid!
depends where youre living
i live and always have lived in Greystones,Co. Wicklow....legend!!
the transport system is sh*t though

The country has gone through a lot of changes in the last 10 years, the boom years.
Dublin has had lots of construction and 'cleaning-up' of old buildings, and a lot of the georgian biulding were delapidated and replaced with similar styled buildings (eg- mountjoy square)
A lot of towns have cleaned up their act and look MUCH better than they did 10-15 years ago.
That said, the transport system is improved but needs further improving, same for the health system. Communications are far better than before but things like broadband still need work.

I think the government should concentrate on education first and foremost. Judging by this post it is obviously lacking...

no.its ovious you have not being to athlone, where the opposite to your q-- statement is there to see.

Noooo, I think there are many, many more important things to spend the money on than stadiums, e.g. healthcare and education. Personally, I love the old shop fronts, even if some of them are a bit run down. They portray a part of history right in front of you.

Well stadiums would not be the first on my list for making Ireland more of a 1st world country. Schools and Hospitals would be a big improvement. Proper municipal facilities, i.e. Parks, playgrounds, community halls. At the moment with the massive development of housing estates, community development has not been factored in.

As for old shop fronts, there's no problem with design just with upkeep and repair. I have no problem with Ireland looking old fashioned in terms of aesthetics, I have more of a problem with services being outdated. Example in point would be broadband provision which is one of the lowest in the EU, and thats including the new members. I live in Roscommon and the shop fronts are old but are kept well and they add colour and character that is lost in many cities like London and Milan.

I don't think having great stadiums makes the country look great. Ireland has a small economy and therefore the government doesn't have the revenues to do what your asking them to do. You should enjoy the historical nature of your country and forget about modernizing it and making it look dull. Also you have to stop fighting over religion.
