German Exchange?

I'm going on an exchange trip to Germany.
What is some stuff you can get in the U.S. that you can't get in Germany? (For the host gift)
And what is some stuff in Germany that I should bring back that I can't get here in the states?
Thanks!

I'm going to Wernigerode in Sachsen Anhalt.

Gummibears and chocolate. The usual suspects. As a gift for Germany from the US, well, that depends. You can get everything you get in the US here, it's just that some things are more expensive here. Clothes and shoes for instance. So, if you know how many people your host family will have, why don't you get each of the kids a shirt, maybe one from the University in your town, or just with your town or something (take care to take the fitted shirts, not the big old square shirts). Or you could maybe ask if they want something specific. Chucks/Nike's/ stuff like that is very expensive here (~90鈧?for a pair of chucks here.). Best thig would be to ask.

Welcome to Germany! Where exactly are you going to be?

I am not sure about a gift from the U.S. but you should bring Gummibears from HARIBO back home.
