In Lille, what are the best things to see & where are the best places to shop if I only have 1 day?

I'm particularly interested in the old town

Most of the shops are closed on Sundays, so if that is the day you are there, head for the huge flea market, Wazemmes. You can find just about anything there!
Just wander around the old town. There are old shops with beautiful fronts. You can buy antique table ware, chandeliers, art, designer clothes. Although in France, there are lots of good chocolate shops to choose from. There is a branch of the famous french store - Primtemps.
Lille also has a Bois de Boulogne, a star shaped fortress called the Citadelle,Euralille, (the modern shoping centre), Musee des Arts, Palais des Beaux Arts, the Grand Place, the Bourse, which has booksellers in its cloisters.
Hope you are there for a long day!!!
Have fun.

If you're there only one day you should go to the old town, then go to the place du G茅n茅ral de Gaulle, place du th茅芒tre.
And you can shop Rue de B茅thune ( just ask people for the "rue pi茅tonne") and you can also go at Euralille (it's near the train station, it's a big commercial center).

Enjoy your stay in the "very north of France"! ^_^
