Would you mind reading/editing my small french speech?

it's for a grade 11 french course. Unfortunately, i'm far from fluent, and it would really help if you could read the article over and suggest any corrections or feedback.

Thanks a lot! i really appreciate it.

here is the site containing the article:

Alrighty, pas de probleme !
I suggest changing " Vous devez voyager seulement quelques milles " to On ne doit voyager que quelques milles OR Il ne faut voyager que quelque milles. The writing style is more French, this way.

Also, I think that "la plupart des jeunes Canadiens (qui n'habitent pas au Qu茅bec)" could simply be: la plupart des jeunes Canadiens n'habitant pas au Qu茅bec OR la plupart des jeunes Canadiens hors du Qu茅bec

And when you say "quand ils partent de l'茅cole" are you referring to le lyc茅e or l'universit茅? I think you should specify which one, since l'茅cole is a very general term.

Change "ils trouvent seulement quelques fa莽ons pour pratiquer le fran莽ais dans une soci茅t茅 Anglaise" to ils trouvent peu de fa莽ons de pratiquer le fran莽ais dans une soci茅t茅 anglaise

"l'atmosph猫re 脿 l'ext茅rieur d鈥檜ne 茅cole" should be l'atmosph猫re hors d鈥檜ne 茅cole, just because 脿 l'ext茅rieur tends to refer to the outer surface of something, or even outdoors.

In French, "M锚me si les adolescents trouvent un sc茅nario dans une communaut茅 anglaise o霉 ils peuvent pratiquer leur fran莽ais conversationnel, ils ne sont pas souvent compris" would usually be more like M锚me si les adolescents trouvaient un sc茅nario dans une communaut茅 anglaise dont ils pouvaient pratiquer leur fran莽ais conversationnel, ils ne seraient pas souvent compris. When speaking about if something were to happen, French speakers use the Imparfait/Conditionel format (such as Trouvaient & Pouvaient, then Seraient). However, the Pr茅sent/Futur could also be used (Trouvent & Peuvent, then Seront)

For "les locuteurs natifs du Montr茅al parlaient", if you mean native speakers from Montreal then use de Montr茅al. If you mean native speakers in Montreal, then use 脿 Montr茅al.

"J鈥檃i parl茅 seulement l鈥檃nglais tout au long du voyage" would be "Je ne parlais que l'anglais" or "Je parlais uniquement l'anglais". Don't be afraid to use l'imparfait! :) Also, the usage of "seulement" is not quite the same as in English. Ne..que and Uniquement are often better substitutes.

When you say "quand ils deviennent adultes", be sure to use the future tense! This is not like in English. The correct phrase would be "quand ils deviendront adultes"

"Bien que le march茅 du travail prend en consid茅ration" must be Bien que le march茅 du travail prenne en consid茅ration. Use the subjunctive after Bien que !

And in "En plus, le Canada est tellement divers que la langue que son march茅", do you mean En plus, le Canada est tellement divers que la langue de son march茅 ?
Furthermore, "ne doit pas n茅cessairement 锚tre fran莽ais" would be better as n'est pas n茅cessairement le fran莽ais
Then directly following that, you have written "celle peut 锚tre". In French, this would be either ceci peut 锚tre or cela peut 锚tre.

"ce langage est tr猫s semblable 脿 l'anglais: le Fran莽ais est le plus grand donateur des mots 茅trangers 脿 l'anglais" ought to be "cette langue est tr猫s semblable 脿 l'anglais: le fran莽ais est le plus grand donateur"

"En 茅tudiant le fran莽ais, je pourrai am茅liorer mon vocabulaire Anglais", do not capitalize anglais. If you are not referring to people, then it is always lower-case. Capitalized Anglais means English-person. Same goes for Fran莽ais, and any other nationality.

"En 茅tudiant une autre langue toute la vie", add the word "pour" before toute la vie. It makes more sense this way.

Le Fran莽ais est 茅galement la "lingua franca", remember to lower-case fran莽ais!
"de l'art, de la cuisine, de la danse, et de la mode", the last comma is not needed. In French, a comma is not used before the member of a list.

"nous pouvons donc enrichir nos vies par d鈥檜ne mani猫re", there is no need for "par" here.

"comprendre pourquoi les jeunes", is correct, but comprendre la raison pour laquelle is more advanced.

"notre soci茅t茅 Anglaise", lower-case anglaise.

"parce que le Fran莽ais", lower-case fran莽ais

Overall, it was a very great speech! I really liked the message of it. Despite all these corrections, it was well-written and very good French. With minor improvements, it will be superb. I hope that I helped! If you have any questions, you can always send me a message on this site. Bonne chance !

I'm glad that I could help!
French is a beautiful language. :) Report It

damn... the whole thing? if you mail me with your e-mail address, i can do it tomorrow and send it to you in a word file, so you can make your corrections, that might be best.
