Is German and Austrian cuisine similar?

If not, what are the differences?

Some similarities, they are in the same region, so you find some same ingredients. Austrian has more influence from Hungarian...you'll find things like their own goulash, etc. And Austrians know pastries, like Germans don't.

Both have really good, hearty breads, and sausages. And lots of potatoes in their common foods.

Austria: Sacher Torte...YUMMM.
Interesting fact: In Austria the coffee is more like espresso, whereas in Germany, you ordinarily get a brewed coffee, like the common American type. Of course, such lines have blurred considerably since they both have Starbucks, now. ;)
