What are some good/great money saving tricks/tips for backpacking?

I mean I'm going to be on a tight budget and working while I travel here are some tips I would like and any other you have please =]!

Offer to clean the kitchen at hostels for a free stay

(here's one I found on a vid)- if your going to a museum beg to go in and use they're bathroom then wander around the whole day in the museum.

Please I need some of these tips....

also good Idea for jobs to do while I stay in some towns, I already have teaching english =]

Alright, for starters you're ganna need to sleep. one of the cheapest and easiest ways to travel and sleep is taking the night trains. You can get some well deserved sleep and not waste any time.

Food will add up to be real expensive so just eat 2 meals a day and try to do your shopping in grocery stores and bring gum to suppress your appetite. If you just have to eat breakfast try to keep breakfast small like a protein bar or a muffin you want to keep you're tank empty because morning is when you'll want to do sight seeing, places get really packed in early afternoon.

If you drink, remember that's where a lot of your cash is going to end up. If you can keep your imbibing down to a minimum you'll be better off. Try drinking whatever it is that the locals drink. If you don't know what's cheap, check out the local winos: they always drink the cheapest stuff.

Seeing the sights. Unless it's something you have to see, like the Uffizi in Florence for example you'll pay for it. But do you really have to see Mario's Sex Slave Museum at 15 Euros? Well, maybe you do, but those are the sorts of choices you need to make. Try to see those things that are free or inexpensive.

Getting around is pretty easy. I suggest train, but I'm a train person. The best place I'd advise is Eurail.com. If your not planning on taking a train to many places it might be cheaper to buy tickets as you go. Or you can by a Global pass which will allow you access to any train at any time. And as a bonus, youth 18-26 get discounts. If your a group of more than 3 then it would be cheaper just to rent a cheap car and road trip Europe. It gives you a great experience to see the sights around you and you have more flexibility to get around.

Hope you have fun and Good Luck.

Where are you travelling to?I backpacked all over Europe - dirt cheap. My bible was the "Let's Go.." books - put together by Harvard students who travelled cheaply and compiled all their tips, best places to see, stay etc. into it. Worth investing in it either for a particular country or combined, i.e: Europe. Int'l Student ID card and YHA card will get you discounts into lots of places in Europe, even the movies (matinees). Travel light - easier to get a lift - plus otherwise you'll be tired and whinney. As for jobs, only places you'll get immed job are in the likes of fast-food restaurants, kiosks, markets etc. If you're sticking to big cities, you'll have more options, bars, cafes, hotels. Depending how long you intend to stay in some places, get to know people in the pubs/bars and they'll be your ticket to a job, place to stay etc., especially in Holland, Belgium and Paris EAST. Check out the bulletin boards in bars/cafes. Buy a rail ticket - if you're not hitching, it's the cheapest way around cities and towns. One ticket will cover everywhere. There's no control on whether you use it or not. Otherwise, hire a bicycle when you arrive or even buy a cheap car if you're going to be gone for months.. and sell it before you leave.
Campsites are great - they have chalets for the night cheap.
Also, stay a wee bit outside of the main centre of the towns and you'll find pensions very cheap. Youth hostels are not always near where you want to stay. You won't get free stays at any accommodation. If you ask first, you might even be refused a (paying) bed for the night because they think you'll scarper!! Use the side streets for the cheaper, local eateries and drinking houses. Dollar is worth very little so you'll find it quite expensive. Bring lots of quarters (25c) with you - you'll know why when you get there!!!!!!
Hope this helps.

If you're going to be staying in a town long enough to work in it, you won't be doing that much travelling around. Few people are going to give you money for a one night English language stand, if you know what I mean. There are too many English speakers around for that. Eat your meals out of supermarkets and stay out of pubs and restaurants; unless you get a job in one. Travel by bus; it's cheaper than trains. You just need to have some luck when you get to a particular town that someone will give you a job, but remember that the best part of a restaurant job is that you get to eat there the first day.
