Most important things to know about englad for some one travelling there?

m sister is going to england soon, in the summer, what are the most important things she should know/ she'll be 16 when she goes...

Geezzzzz...... I am glad this wasn't posted in the UK section with these inaccurate and biased reactions!

So as a Brit, let me dispel the myths:

Yes London is expensive, no more so than New York, SF etc. In fact the pound has been weakening and so for tourists is it getting cheaper.

Tea-time (whatever that is???) is not 2.00!!! (Maybe in the Victorian times it was but not in this millennium anyway)

There are NOT only 20 channels. Satellite & cable are common throughout with approx 200 channels.... and btw, if your sister is travelling and wants to see a bit of the county I am sure she is not going to travel all the way to the UK just to watch TV

One truth is that travel by train is quite expensive unless you book well in advance (and travelling around the UK this means either you lose freedom by booking in advance or it is more costly to buy adhoc). You can get cheap rental cars (e.g. www.easycar.com) and driving on the other side of the road is not a problem

If she doesn't drive then travel by coach (private buses) between the major cities is another option.

One piece of advice I would say is, if you really want to see England (or the UK) then don't just stick to London as there is so much more to see.

British people have quite a dry & sarcastic sense of humour but certainly have a sense of humour, and by & large enjoy socialising.

I am not sure what age your sister is, or what she is interested in, so it is difficult to "sell" the UK further, but she won't regret it. The UK gets hundreds of thousands of Americans, Japanese etc tourists each year and they can't all be wrong! Also of course there is no language barrier.

Here are a couple of sites:

I hope she has lots of fun anyway and then she can post her "real" experiences for others to see

London is the most expensive city in the world as the country is very expensive as well do to thare high taxes. The trains are most very expensive and often late and break down. London musicals, plays and concerts are of good value.

Some things she will need to know are:
- They drive on the opposite side of the road.
- Tea time is at 2:00.
- There are only about 20 TV channels (or so Ive heard)
