Travelling to kosovo?? from Serbia? information?

hi, im going to go to belgrade in a couple of weeks and would love to visit kosovo for a day or so while im there, can you give me any info about travelling to Prishtina(or anywhere in kosovo), or general info about belgrade that may make my jouney easier! thanks!

Virus has given you a good answer about Kosova. Ignore the thumbs down. Serbs are just taking out their frustration on yahoo answers.

Here are a few more sites that give good information about Serbia and Kosova.

There are a few direct buses a day from Belgrade to Pristina run (by a few bus companies (Adio tours, Benko, tours and Nisexp) Journey takes 6 hrs and costs 10 euros, but I don't know if they will be running now because Serbia is talking silly and talking about blockading Kosova.

You will still be able to get a bus to Mitrovica (Kosovska Mitrovica) and then walk accross the bridge into the southern albanian half and then get a local bus to Pristina.
This should be OK.. but I would be a little careful because the Northern half of Mitrovica is full of Serbs who are rather frustrated. I would keep a low profile there. The bridge should still be protected by soldiers. So should be safe.

Another way is to get a bus from Belgrade to Novi Pazar. And then get a bus to Pristina. Serbs in Novi Pazar all more relaxed over Kosova. So they won't be any tensions there.

***A few notes. Now is a great time to visit Kosova!! Independence has just been declared. The whole country is buzzing and there is a great atmosphere.
I disagree with Tom. You will have no problems with Albanians. They are too happy celebrating.. I'm Serb, and Albanians have never given me any trouble.

But hotels are expensive and very full because of journalists
people returning home etc..

But you might have a few problems with a few Serbs at the moment. Serbia should be generally safe. But I would kepp a guard because there are quite a few frustrations at the moment and the EU and USA are blamed. I would especially be very careful in areas of Kosova populated by ethnic Serbs.

English is widely spoken in both Serbia and Kosova especially by the young.

Both countries are generally safe, and the populations friendly to tourists.

Taxis aren't a big problem. Most are OK.. except a few guys that hang round Belgrade station, but then anyone is a fool to take those Taxi drivers.

Have a nice trip!!!

Might not be the best time to visit Kosovo

Please stay safe

It's the best time to visist Kosovo . The people of the country are getting their independence so they're very happy . Prishtina is a beautiful city . The best hotel is "Grand Hotel" that's where 50cent stayed on his visit two months ago . You have visit "Prishtine Museum" , it has the item of the ancient Albanians and holds the monument of Prishtina which is a small idol made some 5000 years ago .Beside Prishtina is a large, beautiful park called "G毛rmia", it has a large swimming pool and is used as a park , camping site and it has a mini-zoo containing doves, birds.bears, and racoons . It contains large retaurants and the whole are is cover by trees' . South of Prishtina (only 5km) is the famous"Grasanica Monastery" . It, with three other monasteries in Kosovo are know throughout the world for having the most Byzantine mosaics . In the town of "Fush毛 Kosova" there stands a mighty , stone , tall monument . The Serbs built it there when they captured Kosovo , it is still wonderfull though . If you have more time you have to go to the small town of "Decan" , ( because I'm sure you'll get all the ones in Prishtina seen in a day.)

Decan is situated beside the Dinaric Alps. This time of year is perfect for skiing . It is also home to rare animals like , bears ,wolves and lynxes. 鈽衡樆鈾モ櫐鈾b櫊鈥⑩棙鈼?/div>

Perhaps you need a better travel agent or a brain transplant. Its open season on outsiders in Kosovo, year around. Foreigners going there in their own motor vehicles, leave there on foot or in trains. Cars with foreign license plates are stolen invariably. Tourists are told to park in front of the police station and not go out of the hotel without guides. If you insist on going their, take along the shabbiest clothes you have and a well worn, and cheap suitcase.
Otherwise, if you get in a cab at the airport to get to a hotel, the "cab" will actually be a hostage machine in which you will be taken where the driver (and the guy who sits next to him in the front seat) are accomplises. Yes, sitting next to the driver in the front seat. DONT EVER GET INTO A CAB AT ANY AIRPORT IN THE BALKANS WHERE THERE IS A SECOND PERSON IN THE FRONT SEAT WITH THE DRIVER. HE'S THE ONE MAKING SURE YOU WONT BE ABLE TO OVERCOME THE DRIVER WHEN THE SHAKEDOWN OCCURS.
This advice is valid for Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo,Bosnia, Serbia, croatia,Romania.
Got it?

I went the other way around! The border between Kosovo and Serbia might be closed while you are there, so the best thing to do would be to go to skopje first, but that is a long trip, not a one dayer, i went from skopje to belgrade by bus and it took six hours over night, with a trip from skopje to pristina another hour and a half.

The main problem is that since 1999 there have been UN guys guarding the so called border, but that will surely change and threats by serbia that they will close the border have come out. So be prepared. Also be prepared for serbian officials not wanting people to go into Kosova, it might happen.

Also be reminded that tensions are running high, always be aware of who is around you, especially if you look foreign, and even more so if you are slavic looking. Talk in English in Kosovo, enough people in Pristina talk english and you should not have any problems.

However, Pristina is not the nicest place on earth, interesting due to the situation but there are no sights to speak of really, those are elsewhere in the country.

Also the bus station is a little out of town in Pristina, try and get yourself a map, it is not too hard, but a bit of a walk, perhaps half an hour at a decent pace.
