Which Canadian City Would Be the Best Choice? |
I'm applying for a summer french program and I'm filling out the application and you have to choose your top three placements.... I've already Decided Quebec City will be my first choice but I'm not sure what to put next, If I am going to go for five weeks I need to be in a city that is hopefully atleast equivalent to Hamilton, ON in size and attractions (malls, movie theatres... stuff for teens to do) Dont get me wrong I LOVE the wilderness but I NEED civilization. My other options are Also an option Yes, Winnipeg is a city. If you don't want a small town, you might want to make Jonquiere your third choice. It has about 55,000 people. The others are much smaller, especially Pointe-de-l'脡glise, which is a village. how about montreal? Winnipeg is a great choice due to the fact that in the summer there are tons of things to do and see but it's not so big that you'll be lost and out of touch! Also, it's cheaper to stay here and we're friendly... =) I think city of Ottawa would suit you best,least expensive major city in which to live in North America,enviable city in which to pursue academic studies or professional development. The region鈥檚 six colleges and universities, plus numerous technology institutes and professional schools create a highly integrated and flexible education and training delivery system,just 15 minutes away from Hull,Quebec and 2 hours "driving" to city of Montreal....plenty of shopping malls,movie theatres,clubs, bars great transportation system,only 15 minute walk will get you to most hotels and downtown attractions, very clean city and one of the safest cities in the world and my second choice would be Montreal I would think a city where they speak alot of french would be the best suited, as it is for a french program, no? I would personally stick with the ones in Quebec, where you will have the most exposure to french culture.......... Yea, you should be in Quebec so for the french program plus it is beautiful and fun there too! Winnipeg is not exactly the number one choice to learn French. Ottawa-Gatineau would be good and Montreal even better. Quebec City Check out Dawson college's non-credit language programs in Montreal, QC. You can study from level 1 to 5, each level is 40 hours long to complete and its only $249 per session. Don't even think about Winnepeg don't get me wrong I like the city been there seveal times and looked at getting a transfer there from my employer BUT you won't learn any French there unless you are a local in St Boniface. I think that your best bets are Riviere de Loup and Jonquiere. I've been through Riviere several times and it is a city about the size of Belleville or Cornwall ON, I don't know about Jonquiere or the place in Nova Scotia. Quebec City is a given. Winnipeg is not really a french city so the instruction will be the bulk of your french experience - won't be cultural immersion and it has tons of mosquitoes in the summer. Jonquiere and Riviere Du Loup are much smaller cities so you may struggle to find all the entertainment you are seeking from a large city. As others have said, the place in Nova Scotia Pointe de l'Eglise is a very small village (Church Point in english) near Digby and is beautiful and quaint but a long way from any city. |
