I'm going to Canada this June With a Tour...?

It's a trip with my school (i'm in yr9). There's about 54 people total going, most of them normal, American Eagle-esque happy students. So, basically I'm spending a week in Canada with people that, runder normal circumstances, wouldn't be friends with me or I with them. Any tips to handle that?

Also, while a lot of the trip will be touring, there will also be time for independant shopping. Like in the underground malls and getting lunch and such. Three questions about that:
1. I'm finishing my first year of French class in May... will that be needed? Or do most Canadians automatically speak English?

2. Are there any gothshops in Montreal? (NOT like Hot Topic)

3. D'you have any useful tips for manners, Candian eccentrites, et cetera that I should know? Anything that'll help me NOT look like a *grimace* tourist.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,
Most Canadians speak English and French. Quebec is where you'll find the solely French speaking population. Your French class will help but in the states they teach Parisian French not Canadian French which has some differences. Montreal is a big city so there are definitely some goth shops, whether or not they'll be in your travel route is questionable. Americans usually blend in pretty well here in Canada, as long as you don't make fun of poutine or us saying eh you'll be fine. We're really nice here. BTW you should try poutine when your here so you can spread the word to your ignorant fellow citizens who like to knock things before they try it. lol

ps. i live in pitt for 2.5 years so i have lots of american friends, im not an antiamerican or anything!

pps in canada we say grade 9, not yr9. if u say yr 9 ppl think ur 9 years old. lol i had to remember that from when i lived there or i wouldve thought u were only 9!

have fun!

Canadians are polite in general just be the same and you'll be fine ...

well it depends on where you go in Canada
I live in Ontario Canada it's all english. I went to montreal,a nd in some shops I would 'try' to speak french, and they would laugh at me and then tell me they speak english. haha.

I guess the only thing I cold say to prepare you.... is that the weather is all over the place!!!!! So bring clothes for all sorts of weather haha.
