How long does it take to cross the Canadian boarder? |
Some friends and I are going up to Vancouver in a couple weeks and I wondered how long it takes. A lot depends on the time of day and how many vehicles are ahead of you. Going, about 5 minutes...coming back....is a tad bit harder!! With the new passport requirement there's a greater chance of delays but from what I've heard so far it hasn't had a huge impact. You should be pretty good at 3pm but don't go much later or you'll run into a number of people who are returning home from their jobs in the US. Most likely, you'll get asked a couple of questions and then waved over (assuming you have a passport). Depends how many cars in front of you, usually it takes me anywhere from 20-30 minutes, waiting for other cars to pass through. Then talking to the border patrol takes about 5 minutes helps if you have all your documentation out and ready and you tell them what you are planning on doing/where your going. As long as there is nothing suspicious then 5 minutes should be about it. As others have said, it really depends on time of day and season. Since it will not yet be tourist season, that will help. I have crossed the border both ways many times, and it took a long time only once, and that was on the east coast at the Calais/St. Stephen border crossing. Mostly it takes from 5 minutes to 30 minutes, rarely more than that. |
