Does the Canadian Government keep a record when you travel to and from the US without a passport? |
NOTE: The ID presented at customs is a birth certificate and a drivers license (this is before passports where required). They photograph every licence plate and I think they also record the ID you use for identification. So the US has a record of when you go into the US and Canada has a record of when you return. Passports are still not required if you drive. no, most of the time they don't even run your id..but when they do they have it on file Don't be fooled, they run every cars license plate at the border & yes to an extent they do keep record both sides of the border do this. yeah, i think the answerers that said they keep a record of the license numbers of the cars are right. when my husband and i bought a new car and then went to canada to visit my parents, the border guard asked us who owns the car. that was his first question prior to checking our passports. they've never done that before with our old car. i thought it was kinda odd to be asking that question. but after that, whenever we go up there for a visit with that car, they don't ask anymore about it. |
