See webpage below and read section under "Entry requirements" to see that you do need a visa. The same section also contains a link to the Brazilian embassy so you can get the info to apply for the visa.

You do for one reason, Brazil麓s Itamaraty (Foreign Ministry) applies a reciprocity conduct, so since the US requires a Visa from Brazilians, the same applies to US citizens.
The same goes for your phone + finger prints when entering Brazil. They are required from you, as the US requires from Brazilians.
Soon after it became mandatory there was an incident with a American Airlines pilot who gave the finger while the photo was taken and was arrested and expelled from the country, while AA had to pay a $US 50 thousand fine.
I dont when I use my Italian passport, cause the EU does not require visas from Brazilians.

There are controversies about it. Most people say its a good thing, a lot others say it hurts the Brazilian tourism industry.
Enjoy, its a great country
