Is it safe to drive in natal Brazil?

Is it safe to drive to natal in brazil,a little worried about going with my 5 year old.We all look brazillian as my father is brazilian would that help.

You should be fine, usually people just don't stop at red lights at night.

Well, people tend do speed up there...other than that, I don麓t see any other concern about driving there.

don't forget a bulletproof vest and a helmet. Other than that you're fine.

People in Brazil do not know how to drive very well. This means they think that driving is just speeding up and not being corteous to other drivers. It's like being in a car race where you want to be the first no matter what.

I really encourage you to take this decision after you have arrived there and spent some time riding a taxi. You wll get an idea of what driving is like in Brazil and you will sense the level of safety which is quite low.

I really discourage you from driving in Brazil, specially since you have a kid. It's better to take a taxi.

By the way, the American driver license is NOT valid in Brazil due to the reciprocity principle that Brazil applies (Brazilian license is not valid in the US). You need to go to your local AAA and get an international license for Brazil. They have two types of licenses and they might give you the wrong one so please double check it's the one for Brazil.

Again, I do not recommend your drive in Brazil.
