What is cost of living in sao paulo city, brazil? |
I'am a american moving to sao paulo city to work on computers and need to know the cost of living as well as food, aparment, neighborhood etc. I am an American and I lived in Sao Paulo earlier this year. Frankly, despite what people say, I thought it was quite cheap in comparison to Chicago, where I have also lived. To keep rent down, try not to use a service aimed specifically at tourists, because the rent will likely be double what it would normally be. I lived in a decent apartment with internet, cable and a cleaning lady twice a week who did all my laundry too, and it set me back about $500 a month. Dining can be expensive as you want it to be, but a very good meal nin a nice restaurant with a drink will rarely cost more than $20. Clothing is quite cheap. A beer in a bar will be around $2. Some clubs however are quite expensive. I thought some of the nicer neighborhood were Jardims, Itaim Bibi, Pinheiros, Higienopolis, Vila Madalena, Vila Olimpia and Brooklin. Jardins is closest to the financial district, however large businesses can be found in various neighborhoods. You definitely don麓t want to live in the old downtown area, which has a funky charm during the day, but is all hookers and thieves at night. For some reason, all the guidebooks mention little about the nieghborhoods I have listed, but a ton about the old downtown. Sao Paulo is an expensive city however if you are making dollars then your life might be much easier and cheaper than of the brazilians. Apartment rent (1 bedroom+living room+bathroom+kitchen) + building maintenance fee=R$800 monthly Sao Paulo remains the most expensive city in Latin America. Sao Paulo is now placed 62nd globally. The Brazilian Real has remained stable against the US Dollar over the last 12 months. Like most big cities in the World SP can be expensive. One thing to keep in mind is that, you need to have a budget and live within your means. |
