Side trips from Vienna and Salzburg.............? |
I had posted a similar question but just for Vienna. We are now staying 5 nights in Salzburg and 6 nights in Vienna. I am looking for ways to see the countryside of Austria via train. We are wanting to tour villages if possible. A user... Petra, I think it was wrote some amazing ideas for Vienna on a previous post , but more suggestions are welcomed. As of now we have only a few ideas for day trips from Salzburg. More are needed. I do have several side trip destinations ideas for Salzburg (yes, I have been there at least 3 times!). I really enjoyed visiting Hohenwerfen, a sister fortress to Hohensalzburg, about half an hour's train journey due south of Salzburg. This fortress looks over the small town of Werfen, and is about a twenty minute walk from the train station. There is a wonderful restaurant at the fortress, a good tour which included a climb up the clock tower where you can take some great panoramic shots of the town below and the towering craggy mountains around. They also have this incredible falconry show done twice every day. They use hawks, falcons, eagles, and even vultures from around the world. Here is their website: |
