the most famous cities in Austria to visit : VIENNA , SALZBURG , INNSBRUCK & ZELL AM SEE
vienna is the capital and considered one of world beautiful cities , salzburg is mozart birth place and has some interesting places to visit , and its near the biggest ice cave in the world ,

innsbruck is called jewllery of alps mountains , very very beutiful city in both summer and winter

zell um see its the place of nature and quite , mountains , lakes green areas ,

there is many lakes and water falls everywhere in austria

There's a great pub that brews its own beer in Rennweg, Vienna

THERE ARE SOME REALLY NICE PLACES IN VIENNA CENTRE

Saltzburg's monastry beer hall where the monks brew the smoothest beer I,ve ever tasted. Be careful though, its strong stuff!

Austria has more castles to visit than anywhere else - and they're mosly the fairytale kind!
The countryside is amazing, especially the Tyrol:

is the address for a map (spelt Tirol sometimes). Beautiful mountainous area with picturesque villages festooned with hanging flowers all smmer and fantastic snow resorts at winter (watch out for the cows with bells 'round their necks clanging away in the fields - the hill ARE indeed alive with the sound of music)

The cities of Vienna and Sltzberg are worth the trip alone. Stunning cities. It's been ten years since I was there - but I loved every minute. This site has more info

Enjoy your trip.

I like the Tirol region best. Try the Wildshonau. It's right in the mountains and really beautiful. Niederau is full of hotels. Try the Harfenwirt. Great hotel and very good food. If you like lakes & mountains try Aachensee which is on the otherside of the river Inn. It's breathtaking. For more lively places but still pretty try Kitzbuhel. There are some good clubs there as well as cable car rides, snow capped mountains, traditional restraurants, etc.
Another region to try is Salztkammergut (lots of lakes) only half hour from Salzburg and about three from Vienna. If you do go there make sure you visit Bertchesgaten (The Eagles Nest - Hiltlers retreat) It's only about half an hour from Salzburg and really worth a visit. Hope that helps and you have a nice holiday.

Check out the following eateries in Vienna:
Au-restaurant (near UN center)
B眉rgerhof (Gentzgasse 127)
Marchfelderhof (Deutsch-Wagram, just north of Vienna)
Sacher Hotel (try the cake, it rocks)
Check out mountains in the state of Steiermark, not as crowded as Tirol or Vorarblerg
The large lakes on both sides of Austria are definitely worth seeing (Bodensee and Neusiedler See), small lakes in Salzburg state are also worth while
As far as clubs are concerend, ask for the Bermuda Triangle in Vienna (Bermuda Dreieck), it's called that way because once you enter it, you don't come out again!

There is sooo much to see in Austria I could fill a book with it, but here are my all time favourites:

Restaurants:
Styria: Near Stadl an der Mur (next to the border to Salzburg) you find the oldst inn in Styria - Gasthaus Winter. Good food, good company, a real Austrian place. (Sorry, the link is only in German but there is the address and a phone numer)

Salzburg: The "Brauhaus" in Kaltenhausen, one of the biggest breweries in Austria is a good choice. You drive through the countryside and in the middle of nowhere you find a huge beer brewery with an adjoining inn. Good food, they have a counter in the middle of the restaurant where you can buy local coldcut meats and other specialities. (Sorry, again no English homepage)

Tyrol: I spend a lot of time here, so I'd have hundreds of good places to list but the best ones are
The Auracher L枚chl in Kufstein. A very old and traditional hotel/restaurant at the banks of the river Inn. Live music every Sunday. www.auracher-loechl.at/

The Batzenh盲usel, next door. Not very sophisticated, but fun! The boss invents new tools for drinking alcohol all the time (dinking from a high pressure pot, or from a mug that weighs 10 pounds...)

Mountains are everywhere in Austria, except the very eastern end.

Krimml has a magnificent waterfall.

Enjoy Austria!

I agree with one of the previous answers. The monastary beer hall, a must see. Beer is big, cold and awesome! They also have a food court, very cool. Where else can you enjoy a cold brew and bologna & onion salad....YUMMY!!!!
