What are the requirments of getting HELP (Higher Education Loan Program) or any other loans for study?

For a person 17/18 working part time. Going to university say 4 years. Living away from home,(not with parents. )

(Perth, WA)

I don't think the above information is applicable to your situation in AUSTRALIA. Try looking at www.goingtouni.gov.au and you will see that there are actually two kinds of HELP loans. One is if you secure a Commonwealth Supported Place for your undergraduate study. This is known as HECS HELP.

Alternatively you may pay full fees and receive a FEE HELP from the government to cover costs.

The CSP is definately what you want and with HECS HELP, any amount over $500 paid up front receives a 20% discount. I think there is also an additional 20% add on if you take out a FEE HELP loan for undergraduate study. It's primarily a merit system and I heard the new government will soon scrap full fee paying postions for domestic students.

In addition to this you would be interested in applying for Austudy and rental assistance but being under 25 this may be dependent upon your parents income. If you're a good student take a look at differrent scholarships offered. This info can also be found on the goingtouni website or your university websites. With all of this you must of course be an Australian citizen.
