What is a pommie.....and does it have anything to do with New Zealand?

It stands for Prisoner of Mother England or when it is referred to without an "e": Prisoner of the Monarchy.

What Aussies may or may not know is that it is quite an offensive thing to call an English person although to be honest, us English don't tend to know what it stands for and see it as a term of endearment!

pommie is actually spelt pome and is an abreviation for prisoners that where sent from England to Australia. Australia was a penal colony of England many years ago.
POME means Prisoner of Mother England.

Nothing to do with New Zealand.
It is the Australian term for a British person. We just use it the same way we call ourselves "Aussies" or all Americans "yanks" - it can offend but it is not generally meant to - unless you use the term "Whinging Pom".

It has nothing to do with New Zealand per se... More along the lines of what the call the Brits... It is an Australian term, but it is commonly heard in NZ as well...
