Requirements for Australia?

My boyfriend and I are visiting Australia (mini-vacation) for 10 days in the 3rd and 4th week of May.

I knew we needed our passports and we just received those back (we live in the USA), but is there anything else we need to get?

Also, what's the difference between an ETA and a Visa. I went to the Australian immigration website and there's sooo much stuff on there and it's all too much to get! There's like, no DEFINITIVE answer on anything!!!

We just got our passports a few days ago, and I thought everything was set, and now I'm finding out we have to pay more $$$ for a Visa?!?

I saw a different question like this, and someone replied that you don't need a Visa to enter Aussie because they and the US are on good terms and that he's been there twice in the past year and they haven't said anything...

you do need a tourist visa

and ETA visa is one people from certain countries can get right away on line without having to wait days or weeks for the visa
Americana's are eligible for an ETA visa

Travel insurance is optional but remember if you get sick or injured without insurance you will have to pay your own mdeical expences
