Yeah, sure. Just make sure you're carefull. A lot of people get sold into slavery or worse.
On second thought, you should bring a few friends with you. And make a detailed plan of where you are going and leave it with someone you trust in your home country (US?). That way if something happenes, they will have a basic idea on where to look for you.

come to china ,people are just wonderful friendly and language in not a barrier, most very one i have been in contact for last 3 yrs speaks or mangles little English cost of living is very reasonable keeping in mind that white colar workers are paid a salary of about 200-250 USD per months, restaurants, you can eat very well for 5 USD hotel room anywhere fron 20 to 40 USD day inclusive of TV Internet free morning coffee taxi it averages to 1 dollar per mile i am in south china Guangdong Province

i dont think Cambodia has the road from SIem Reap to Laos, may be you can go another way from Kratie (Kror Jes, Province of Cambodia) to Laos and it is not expensive by bus. actually i am cambodia...
