Is downtown Buenos Aires safe for a girl travelling alone?

Is downtown Buenos Aires safe for a girl travelling alone?

I've been travelling alone sonce I was 21 and I've always taken precautions and there isnt a safe place on earth if you are not careful!! Tell someone where you're going, have your credit cards and valuables stuck in a safe in the hotel, keep to big avenues when walking, avoid walking at night, it's better to take a taxi and if it's one of those radio taxis better as you are not catching them in the street. Just play it safe and dont flash around that you're a tourist. Ah, and dont talk to strangers unless it's absolutely necessary!

Yes, the main thing is not to advertise that you are a tourist. I keep large bills in my sock in case someon grabs my purse, which my argentine friends ay happens (but I've never sen and has neve happend to me!) Report It

It is safe only if you dont walk at night alone or during "siesta" or nap hours.
Try to take cabs as other user said and dont take a purse ...
If you need extra help dont hesitate to e mail me
good luck

Yes, it is. Again, as said above, always take precautions as you are in un-familiar territoty.

You should be able to move around in "subte" (subway), and "colectivos" (buses) with no problem.

Try>

a- Downtown
b- Puerto Madero (harbourfront)
c- San Telmo (old city and antiques)
d- La Boca - tipical neighbourhood/tango
e- Palermo (Botanical garden and zoo)
f- Barrio Norte (shopping)

Enjoy!

I'm a 27 year old American woman living in Buenos Aires and yes, I am careful about what areas I wander around in. But as long as you keep a low profile, don't dress too "rich" and try not to look touristy, you'll be fine.

I don't suggest wandering around the downtown area alone after, say, 9pm. There is police presence, but still, better safe than sorry. At that point you should call a "Radio Taxi" and have them take you to where you need to go.

Happy travels!
