About Argentina..?

Im taking a spanish class now. Tomorrow, i have a task to write article about argentina. Could you help me to find interesting topic related to argentina which is interesting to discuss. I prefer to have news about things:
1. traditional things that last till now
2. habits
3. trendsetter things

At the beginning of the Fodor's travel guide, there is a chapter about local traditional things and habits of each country. I always find that chapter very useful. It is also online.

Well, as I'm Argentinian, I can tell you that we have some habits that are interesting. For example, on sundays we are used to meet all the family in a house (usually the grandmother's) and while women prepare the food, men watch car races. Or men prepare "asado" and women salads. And after having ate, we're used to stay on the table for some more time (we call it "sobremesa").
Well, I could write much more... Best wishes and luck in your spanish class!

You can write about lots of aspects of Argentina, its story (really contradictory), its lands (geographical aspects), the tourism in Buenos Aires, and lots of other things...
Bye!

Argentina was liberated with the help of General San Martin. The people then had a civil war, which tore the country apart and was against the desires of San Martin. He wound up dying in FRANCE!!! He couldn't even stay in his own country.

Since then, Argentina hasn't had much luck with their government. They've struggled through military dictators and incompetent presidents. They even had a period of time in the late 60's/early 70's where they went through several presidents.

Argentina has what they call the gaucho, or cowboy. They have many characteristic pieces of clothing that make them original. Their knives made with bone and plata (silver), their poofy pants, their decorative belt buckles, etc. They have inspired many folklore songs which compares to our american country/western music.

Argentina is known for it's beef. They proudly grow natural beef and refuse to use growth hormones or other chemicals. Much of their beef is exported around the world.

The people in Buenos Aires are known as portenos (pronounce pour-tain-yos). They are stereotyped as prideful, self-important people.

Much like the United States, argentine spanish is spoken with different tones throught the provinces.

In rural areas they usually take a siesta, which is about a 2-3 hour rest for lunch time. The entire family gets together for lunch and then afterwards there is usually talking or napping before they go back to work or school.

Personally, I don't recommend it because after eating alot and taking a nap you will wake up in what I can only describe as a post-hybernation state and you'll feel like an angry bear.

Argentines love soccer. In Argentina you have to be a fan of one of two major teams, River or Boca. Regardless of another major/minor league team which might be your favorite, you have to pick one of the two, either River or Boca. They are the two major league teams from Buenos Aires.
