Anyone been to Calafate, Argentina?

I need to find travel resources - I'll be staying in the Design Hotel. How big is Calafate? How difficult is it to get around (e.g., from hotel to cafes, shops, etc.)? Once I'm there, how expensive is it?

Thanks!

I was just there a few years ago - and it was one of my favorite places in Argentina. It's quite a small town that literally shuts down during the winter months. I think Feb - March is the ideal time to visit. The people were lovely, it's very easy to get around and the food and shops were very good. You can walk to just about anywhere, and the taxi service was good.

You must go see the glacier Perita Moreno while you're there. It is worth the trip if you like to see Mother Nature at her finest.

It was one of the more expensive places I went to, but the U$S rate was so favorable that I couldn't complain.

Also, brush up on your Spanish. Not too many folks spoke English. Have a great time!

Hi Kelly, I am Argentine and I have been to El Calafate. The city is relatively small so getting around is very very easy. Expensive. . .can you be more specific? I mean Argentina in pretty cheap if you come with euros or dollars although a nice dinner there will run you about 30 dollars per person. For the excursions everybody will pick you up at the hotel so that is not a problem. However, make sure you are in good shape for some of them. Email me for more details if you want. gmodepal@yahoo.com.ar.
