What is the prevalent Cultural viewpoint of Argentina?

I once heard it said that Argentinians are 'Spanish speaking Italians who think they are English living in France.' Are you still very proud of your European heritage, or do you look forwards as South Americans much more now?

Argentina is very culturally diverse. As with most South American countries, the people are very proud to be Argentine. They speak a different dialect of Castillian Spanish called Rioplatense, due to the influence of the Spanish in the 15th and 16th centuries. More specifically, Buenos Aires residents call themselves porte帽os and are very proud to be from the city.
Some Argentines are also very proud to announce that the city of Rosario is the hometown of the rebel Ernesto "Che" Guevara de la Serna, of which numerous movies have been made.
Argentina is also one of the safer and more stable nations on the South America continent. Despite and economy crash in 2001, the nation has begun to rebound and citizens are happy with the current President Nestor Kirchner. Tourism and medical tourism make Buenos Aires and international destination as well.
Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo are a particularly vocal group. Using their freedom of speech, they publicly protest the "Dirty War" that took place in the late 70's.
Most Argentines are proud to be from Argentina. There are a lot of cultural influences in our world today that would not exist if it were not for the lovely country of Argentina.

i never heard this. I am hispanic and I can assure you most of my argetinians friends are very proud of being hispanic as well as their roots.

Argentina is a melting pot of european immigrants, (mainly from the XIX and XX century, with a high degree of Spaniards and Italians) and criollos, thus the argentine culture is a mix of european cultures and gaucho traditions, and depending of the regions and provincies, some of these european traditions stand out more than others.
