Just out of curiosity if Islam bans wine and whisky, why some Muslims drink them?

(seen it with my own eyes, not that I am judging, just curious)

And if Islam bans homosexuality, why did Yasser Arafat have a stable of young men?

There is one rule for the masses and another for the "leaders."

.

me too. I was drinking beer with 2 Saudis in Bahrain. What's up with that?

People who are Muslim but les religious sometimes drink.
It really depends on how much they practise and can also depend what type of Muslim they are too (Sunni, Shiite, etc.)

Because not all Muslims follow *everything* their religion teaches - just like Christians, Buddhists, every other religion, etc.

Besides, drinking is fun! Can you blame them?

Same reason a Southern Baptist might drink, or a Mormon might drink coffee, or the Hindus who sometimes eat meat.
Its a good question, but as a side note I think that there is a misconception that Muslims are so pious. I do not see any real evidence of this on a broad scale.

It's not only the Muslims, it's the Mormons too !!!!

Well, most religions sport some version of "thou shalt not kill" as a general rule, and most seem to buck that one quite easily when push comes to shove..... in comparison, partaking in a little drunkenness on the side doesn't seem to be such a big transgression.

seriously lady who cares?
Muslims are people and it's not that every Muslim is restrictively religious or an extremist!
I'm allegedly a Muslim through my father but I don't really practice any religion.
by the way I get pissed with whiskey every now and then. ;)

What do Muslims do when they need a drink? They cheat.

Manama, Bahrain, Dec. 29, 2004 (UPI) -- Mubarak and Khalifah, two Saudi men in their early 30s, frequently visit the tiny kingdom of Bahrain to entertain themselves. Their favorite place is the Tarboush restaurant in Manama where alcohol is served freely, and singers and a belly dancer perform every night.

Public entertainment as such does not exist in conservative Saudi Arabia. Big shopping malls, fancy restaurants and resorts are almost the same in both neighboring countries.

"The only difference is this sense of freedom in Bahrain," said Alia, a Lebanese wife who has been living in the Saudi city of Dammam for nearly 15 years. "We can go around and have a nice dinner. Women can drive. Alcohol is allowed and there are nightclubs. All sorts of things that we can't do in Saudi Arabia."
[snip]
On normal days, it takes only 45 minutes to cross the bridge. On weekends, starting Thursdays, an average of 40,000 cars line up for up to three hours to reach Manama. To many, it is worth the trouble. washington times

We have levels of beliefs in our faith so it is no surprise some Muslims drink alchohol. Also the background of the person eg if he drinks before converting to Islam it sometimes takes time to go off completely as required by the faith.
Some Muslims too misinterprete the Quran to suit themselves because alchohol was not banned at once. there are the earlier laws that suggested moderations and the final ones that gave total ban form alchohol.

Because all humans have free will, and do not follow religion in all ways. Peace!

Also Muslims are only human beings like Christans or members of any other Religions.

Please do not understimate the influence of the westerners in Islamic countries. They want to keep their kind of life style and coutries depending on tourism will satisfy this lifestyle.

Why some Muslims drink? Bcause it's avaible. That's why.Why are some Christians not following the ten comitments?

We all are just human beings and none of us isperfect.

Take care.

Take care.

because when things are BAN u like to do it

FACT #1:
History traces that Arabs in the Pre-Islamic Era enjoyed lots of alcoholic drinks, and were known for having many. So, it must be in the blood.

FACT #2:
Humans aren't perfect, only God (Allah, Eloah, Elah) is.

FACT #3:
Some Jews eat non-Kosher meat. Some Christians don't celebrate Christmas. Some Buddhists have never visited a temple. (no stereotype meant: "some")

FACT #4:
Wine & whiskey are permitted in the UAE; an Islamic country utilizing the Sharia Law.

* I have also read that alcoholic drinks are not permitted in all the holy religions that includes: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Then again, we are humans and humans tend to be faulty.

* In my opinion, I disagree with drinking alcohol because it goes against my religion, health, social, psychological, and financial life. It applies to everyone too. Why lose all that just for a liquid? Drink Coke.

maybe they enjoy drinking it?lol

its availible everywhere in dubai, and if u really think about it the Arab life before Islam came was drinking drinking dancing drinking dancing girls dancing girls drinking :)

but still i agree with fanano.
