Is it right in lagos, nigeria that they charge you fortaxes and travel allowance?

i understand the travel allowance is money you need when you come over here so you are not a vagrant even if you are coming to stay with someone how can i find out

Taxes are included in the price of your ticket. No such thing as a travel allowance from a legal perspective, as mentioned labor agreements may stipulate this but no legal requirement.

To answer your question, you are right. But this line of reasoning is an old relic (which used to be referred to as a Basic Travel Allowance or BTA). This is now pointless as governments nowadays don't care how much money their citizens have when they leave since the consular officials in charge of issuing visas for the person's intended destination will more than likely not issue the visa if the applicant can't provide proof of income at a level so as to avoid destitution.

But since you mentioned "Nigeria" in your question, I would like to know: were you contacted by a person in Nigeria (through a random email/instant message, or maybe perhaps through some dating website)? The reason why I am asking is that there are a lot of Nigerian scammers on the internet who like to scam foreigners for money. They have many ways to extract money out of victims. In your case, if this is true, I highly recommend that you break off all contact immediately with the people you are concerned about. This is a scam.

At this point in time, what I am suspecting is that the person whom you are in contact with is probably asking you for a few thousand dollars (to be sent via Western Union to them) as a BTA. Perhaps they have even asked you already to buy them an airplane ticket? In any case, what will really happen is that if you do send it, they will receive the money and after a few days of making you sweat and worry about them, they will come back to you telling you more stories that they were in a car accident on the way to the airport or maybe they were robbed on the way. Either way, their money is "gone" and they will need more money, from you, to pay a various assortment of bills and bribes like hospital bills and bribes for corrupt police and government officials.

If you need help, take a look at the following links:

Airport tax is collected at all airports. For domestic flights, the tax is N50 while for all international flights, the tax is US$20 or it's equivalent. The rates are subject to change from time to time. A visitor should find the rate at the time of travel.

Purchase and transfer of foreign currency is still restricted in Nigeria.

But there is no such thing as a BTA unless you are part of a Nigerian union. In many union agreements, Nigerian employers must pay union members an allowance for being "out-of-station", i.e., being sent to work away from their normal work location. This is intended for work within Nigeria.
However, some Nigerian employers then also pay a travel allowance (instead of reimbursing actual costs) if/when staff is sent abroad for work or on a business trip.
Travel allowances are thus related to your employment agreement.

there is no such thing as BTA. go to www.internet-love-scams.org
