Hi, this is the Statistical Report on Official Development Assistance , from the government of Canada website. Which dates back to the mid 90's. You could download all or browse the CIDA website to see what the government of Canada does.

Most Canadians and people in the west pay taxes. A part of those taxes go to foreign aid. The current government is putting more money lately elsewhere. Which people don't have control over. When you say has Canada lost its passion , the government has. But the people? I don't believe so, not the majority anyway. I myself am a human rights worker helping refugees in Canada. And I have also worked in the ME for 3 years teaching in a refugee camp. I'm not the only one that cares so much for this world and its people. Peace to you!

I don't know if Canada has lost its passion, but as a Canadian, I'm sick and tired of my fellow Canadian soldiers dying in a foreign country for a country that doesn't even want to make peace with itself.

I'm talking specifically about Afghanistan. The Vandoos have been losing soldiers due to roadside bombs being placed by the civilian population. How many more soldiers must be killed before we finally pull out of Afghanistan? They obviously don't want us there, and it's impossible to force people to get along when they don't want to, so we should just cut our losses and keep our soldiers to patrol the arctic passageways. That's where the real threat to Canada lies.

Insofar as aid packages to the Africa, I think Canada is more than gracious with their donations, and I don't think the Middle East needs anymore aid they have oil for Christ sakes!!!
