Why didn't the us nuke iran after the hostage crisis?

After the innocents were finally freed after 444 days of being held by the sons of satan. Why didn't the US nuke iran.

Nuclear bombings are serious business. You can't nuke nations the way you can bomb them. 13 nuclear missiles exploding anywhere in the world around the same time would cause a nuclear winter.

The Iranian hostage crisis was during the Cold War. The United States and Soviet Union were at odds, and if the United States had used nuclear weapons against Iran, the Soviet Union could have launched a missile at the U.S. or some other country, starting a nuclear war.

Since the United States is not the only nation with nuclear weapons, it cannot just use them at will. (even if it could, that would be stupid) China, United Kindgom, France, Russia, India, and Pakistan must always be considered, because they also have nuclear weapons.
