IS the MIDDLE EAST as dangerous as it looks on TV?

I was wondering because I wanted to go on a vacation there and I didn't know.

Unless you want to get your head chopped off go somewhere else.

It is, unless you fit in!

yes, not advisable right now.

It's WAY worse. The media is BIG on censorship.

why not try Baghdad you'll be safer

if ur white then hell yeah but if ur darker not at all

Depends on where in middle east you want to go. Some countries are very dangerous and some aren't. The media is so powerful and tells the world negative ways about them. Don't watch TV too much!

Which area in Middle East? There are some areas which are constantly in war and bombings. But some areas are safe to visit. Libanon is considered very safe and it supposed to be a beautiful country but after what happened last year I am not sure... Israel is safe as long as you are not even near GAza Strip... Egype is considered safe but I believe there is some problems right in the border of Gaza and also some problems in the Sinai area which is absolutely a beatiful place. Jordan shoudl be fine, go see Pietra because it is really amazing...

Have a safe trip!

probably not.i lived in ireland during the so called troubles .all the news coverage and sensational reporting that was on english tv showed it as a war zone. i heard 2 bombs in 20 years and never saw an explosion.

well depends where u want to go.
u could go to qutar or dudia there both beautiful countrys to visit. there also jordan which also nice to go too.
but if your talking about iraq or iran i would stay away specially if u don't know how to speak arabic becuase they will treated u like crap.
GOOD LUCK

TV doesn't always give you the best most accurate story, seeing that they are politically inclined and manipulated. However speaking with people that are from there and have been there, the middle east is not a vacations spot as of yet. In some areas it is just pick a country that isn't involved in the war, or in civil wars, seeing the many are. If you speak with someone who has recently been there, they will advise you it is safer to stay ehre for now. There have even been some parts in which america has called for the american citizens to return home, seeing as it is unsafe. For now I would pick another place to vacation.

yes. Forbes magazine voted it the top most dangerous place to visit in 2007. If that doesn't scare you..
((( just worried about your safety of course)) consider this my friend: You鈥檝e got every reason to be concerned about traveling to the Middle East at a time like this. All you have to do is turn on your TV to find disturbing images of anti-American protests in the region, and it would be easy to assume that any country in that part of the world would present a danger to Western visitors.

But are u considering Egypt? That may not be as dangerous. . Let鈥檚 forget the Luxor massacre of four years ago, in which terrorists killed 57 tourists and wounded 25 others. The Egyptian government took measures to boost security at airports, international hotels, and historical attractions throughout the country, and there have been no more attacks. 鈥淓ffective police operations in the past few years and the heightened security posture throughout Egypt have made it more difficult for extremist groups to conduct terrorist operations,鈥?the U.S. Department of State reports. 鈥淗owever, the threat has not been eliminated.鈥?br>
Either way, Keep a close eye on the news and be careful if you do decide to go.

It totally depends on where in the Middle East you plan to visit. Obviously, Iraq, Gaza or Iran are not exactly places for a holiday, because, even if you come back alive, you'll be trying to hide the holiday snaps, for obvious reasons. Yet there are some gems of paradise in the Middle East.
If a beach holiday is what you're after, try Oman or Eilat in Israel - the Red Sea Riviera in Egypt, with resorts like Sharm El Sheikh, are also really nice, with good tourist facitilies and excellent activities, especially scuba diving.
On the other hand, the Middle East is renowned for its unique culture. Safe bets for this would be Dubai, Egypt, Israel, and Wadi Rum in Israel. All these places are excellent destinations with extremely low rates of crime etc and good reputations for tourist safety.
In reply to whether the Middle East lives up to its bad reputation, it exceeds, in certain places. There are much safer places for tourists in the world, and personally, I would carefully consider visiting and do extensive research because there are many things in the Middle East hidden from the eyes of Western tourists, e.g. slavery in Dubai.
Having said that, the Middle East can provide unforgetable memories for tourists and the people you meet are generally welcoming.

Wherever you go, have a good holiday!
