What are some good historic sites to visit in Congo, Africa?

I am booking a trip to the Republic of Congo, and I am looking for some good tourist attractions. I am trying to have varied types of sites, and now I am looking for a site with some historic value to Congo. Does anyone have any ideas?

Because much of Congo-Brazzaville (I assume that's the Republic of Congo you're talking of, not DRC) is rain foresty jungle and highly humid conditions, there is very little there by way of tourist attractions. Your best bet is to try to talk with local people and learn about life there and how people live. Go visit markets, walk through cities and towns, etc.

This all being said, I'm not sure that you actually want to visit Congo as a tourist, as the country has had considerable civil violence in the recent past. The US government says this: SAFETY AND SECURITY: As a result of past conflicts, there is extensive damage to the infrastructure in Brazzaville and in the southern part of the country, and the government is working to reconstruct roads and buildings. Fighting broke out in March and June of 2002 when rebel groups launched attacks first in the Pool region, and later, at the Brazzaville airport. The fighting in Brazzaville was quickly contained and the rebels were repulsed. In March 2003, the rebels and the government signed a cease-fire accord, which remains in effect, although there was some violence in Brazzaville in December 2003.
Tensions in the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo have led to insecurity in border areas in the north of the Republic of the Congo along the Ubangui River. Travel to these regions is not recommended. Night travel outside of cities should be avoided. In March 2007 stray small arms fire originating in the Democratic Republic of the Congo landed in Brazzaville during a conflict in Kinshasa, making security awareness a key consideration for all visitors.
