How much does a plane ticket cost to East Africa from America?

I am junior in high school planning gap year trip after graduation to either Kenya or Tanzania for volunteer work. I could use an estimate or factual information. Thanks.

How do those discount tickets like priceline, ticketsavy, and expedia work? I never been on plane and know just about nothing about ticket buying. I thought you had to buy from the airline in order for you to ride their plane. Also, the airline sites I visited fly to Nairobi only. I figured that I could fly to London with AmericanA or BritishA then use Kenya Airways. It flies to more locations in Kenya.That's a plan.

Depending on when you go, the length of your stay, etc. it should cost between about $1400 and $2500. The cheapest I've ever gotten from California is $1450, and the most I've paid is $2400. If your schedule is fairly flexible, that will help a lot. Flights cost the most in what is the US summer (June through August) and around Christmas and New Years.

Well, a few of my boyfriends cousins have flown from Calgary Canada to Nairobi and Kampala (Kenya and Uganda), and the average price is $2000. Sometimes you can get it cheaper from travel sites like expedia but those tickets are non refundable and you cant change your return dates or anything.
