Let's talk about Nigeria?

to all Nigerians on Yahoo answers...

Do you think its bad to discuss Nigeria's problems on line, open to the gaze of every one. I don't think so.

I agree i won't talk about my parents in front of my friends (except my very closest friend), but i reckon the difference here is that i am more concerned about protecting the integrity of the entity ''Nigeria'' and not those who willfully abuse it through Bad Leadership, Drug Trafficking, Fraud and Religion Peddling.

Every country has problems. Bad leadership, drug trafficking, fraud and religious extremism can readily be attributed to all countries, not just Nigeria. What therefore is the point then to engage in selective secrecy? All countries come short, and to look upon ones own errors, speak up and effect change, instead of posturing in a false light, ...Well..
There is need for acknowledgment and open debate....in every culture.

i hear there's at least 2 kids in the country who are honest.

Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders.
Open debate is necessary for any society that wants to improve. I've met some Nigerians who would like to pretend that everything is fine in Nigeria. Yet everybody knows it's not.
Nigeria is a great place, great people (I used to live there), but there are big political problems that people are not prepared to deal with and speak openly about. The military and police arrest and kill anybody they want. Politicians steal government budgets and don't provide roads, schools and hospitals. And crime is a huge problem. Let's talk about it! Every country has problems, and those that suppress free speech, have bigger problems than the rest!
By the way, ignore people who are prejudiced and ignorant. We all know there are scammers from Nigeria, but unfortunately they are a small minority of the country that are giving the whole place a bad name. Some Nigerians don't like to speak out against the scammers because they fear it will give Nigeria a worse image. Instead they pretend that scammers don't exist. This just makes Nigeria's problems worse, and plays into the hands of the silly bigots such as 'you don't know me' and 'by freedom'.
Healthy democracies engage in honest debate!
