I have been offered USD7250 for job in Muscat. Will I be able to live comfortably with 3 kids and spouse.?How often do you get the $7250? Daily, weekly, monthly, anually? That is key to answering your question... Also, is it tax free?
What are you used to? What is comfortable to you? I lived in Kenya last year and have friends that live on $20 per week comfortably. They have no vehicle, plumbing or electricity and live in a two room house with a dirt floor, but they are happy. I needed about $2,500 per month for our appartment, vehicle, food, etc for our family of 5. We didn't live in a city, which would have been more expensive.
If you are used to modern conveniences, a nice house, car, security, good food and water, access to modern healthcare, etc, then $7,250 per month could be sufficient pay in Oman. If it $7,250 per year - no way...
How are you planning to school your children? Good private schools in foreign countries sometimes have long waiting lists. They can also be expensive. We homeschooled in Kenya, but Oman might not allow it.
If you don't get a detailed answer to your question here on yahoo, ask the employer to let you talk to some of their other employees in Oman so you can find out the cost of housing, food, etc.
If you go, MAKE SURE that you keep enough money available for airfare in case you need to get your family out of there on short notice. Also, keep color copies of your passports, and register with your embassy when you arrive.
Good luck, Muscat looks nice. Of course you can why not. Its big enough to sustain your life together with your wife and 3kids and besides proper budgeting is the answer. Thats it! THIS IS MY ANSWER POSTED LAST WEEK AFTER MUCH RESERCH SO THE ABOVE Ronnie JUST COPIED

RECREATION- CAN'T FIND PRICES but lots to do
Watersports in Muscat incorporates a number of activities such as diving and sailing. Kayaking is yet another favorite activity in the Bander Al Kheran region of Muscat. The waves are about four to six feet in the Masirah Island, which is only half an hour from the capital city of Oman. In this part of Muscat fishing and dolphin hunting is completely forbidden.
Underwater diving is yet another Adventure and Recreation activity in Muscat. There are professionals who conduct guided underwater tours which give you a glimpse into the world of exotic fishes such as - black marlin, swordfish, tuna and lastly snail fish. You can even pamper yourself in the warm water currents that come from the Gulf of Oman and the North Indian Ocean. You can even have the fortune to watch the huge whale soak their skin in the salty water of the ocean.
Caving in Muscat is yet another Adventure and Recreation activity in Muscat. The activity of caving takes place at the Majlis al Jhinn which is the largest cave in the Sultanate of Oman. The caves are amazing places to find the ancestral civilization. There are streams of crystal flowing water, canals and long dark passages. There activity of caving is more like unveiling the mysteries of history and unknown.
a while back some lady answerd this as ...
You don't say what the job is, so I can't comment on whether or not it's a good salary. As a teacher I'm on a little less than your salary, but my employer pays for my accomodation, water, electricity etc. You can eat out quite cheaply, or quite expensively, depending on what you like. On average, a decent mid-price meal will cost you around 5 Rials. There is no public transport worth considering. The baisa bus carries around a dozen people and is very cheap - these run on certain routes through Muscat. Taxis can also be cheap, but you have to barter and some taxi drivers can be very dishonest when it comes to expats. Cars are cheap to buy and run, however, so this is your best bet. Employers generally cover health insurance, but check with your employer just to be sure. Oman's health service is one of the best in the world.
To give you an idea of the cost of living, I spend 150 Rials per month, which covers all my groceries, going out, telephone etc. but don't have any rent to pay. And I save the rest of my salary, which is pretty good. There is no tax.
